Our summer associate program is the firm's primary source for hiring new associates. Summer associates are assigned projects similar to those given to new attorneys. Each summer associate works closely with a designated firm attorney and the recruiting partner who coordinates all work. A partner mentor is assigned to provide guidance to and answer any questions or concerns.
Summer associates draft documents and pleadings. It is not all work.
We encourage summer associates to get to know the lawyers of the firm on a social level. We introduce our summer associates to the unique opportunity of living in New Orleans.
We strive to provide feedback on the work product of
each summer associate on a project-by-project basis.
Through this feedback, we provide candid review and
constructive critiques.
In typical years, and depending upon our hiring needs,
we extend job offers to certain summer associates. We
have been fortunate that nearly all summer associates
to whom we have extended offers accepted positions with
us. The firm only hires associates it believes will
become partners. Such a hiring philosophy has brought
together a group of attorneys committed to excellence.
The firm recruits and hires judicial clerks and third-year
law students for associate positions. Credit toward
partner status is given to associates who have completed
judicial clerkships. We have found that judicial clerkships
are an excellent bridge from law school to the firm's
litigation group.
